In 2013, cannabis concentrates accounted for 7 percent of sales at The Clinic, a Colorado marijuana enterprise that operates a number of shops.
Today, that figure is 33 percent.
The Clinic, which operates dispensaries in Colorado, Illinois and Nevada, recently spent $1 million on its new recreational and medical shop at 2020 S. Colorado Blvd. in Denver, which features a concentrates bar.
Scott Thorn, chief operating officer of The Clinic, joins Cannabist editor-in-chief Ricardo Baca to talk about trends in cannabis concentrates, the innovations to come, and how his business — an early adopter and maker of live resin — has adapted to better serve the growing market.
“We were passionate about that early on, and started making those (concentrates) products,” Thorn says. “And then as that grew, and serving our own stores, we started doing third-party processing for other people who could send us their trim.”
In 2015, The Clinic served as the processor for 150 third-party companies, he says.
