Tonight’s guests: State Representative Michael Callton (R-Nashville) and Lansing beat reporter Jake Neher

Recent reports and statements concerning patient friendly bills HB4271 and HB5104 to recognize medical marijuana distribution facilities on a state-wide level and to correct a bad court of appeals decision have many speculating on the fate of the bills. They are awaiting a vote on the Michigan Senate floor, approval of changes made by the House of Representatives, then consideration from the Governor before they would become law. Governor Snyder says that he could support the bills with some amendments. One change may include adding more state oversight of dispensaries.

Democratic candidate for Governor Mark Schauer has made his support of the medical marijuana program clear in media interviews and on a statement recently posted to his campaign’s web site, which also includes support for the passage of HBs 4271 and 5104.

Joining us tonight – Representative Michael Callton will provide an update on the bills, and to clarify whether the proposed inclusion of additional oversight by the state indicates that the local option concept may be changed before passage into law.

Also- Jake Neher state Capitol reporter for the Michigan Public Radio Network, who recently interviewed the governor’s office and the sponsor of HB4271.

We will also examine the recently posted statement by the Mark Schauer campaign in support of medical marijuana, and what he has said on the issue in media and at fundraising events.
