PAX Labs has announced the addition of two new devices joining their product portfolio this fall: the PAX Era, a streamlined extract vaporizer that works seamlessly with compatible Era Pods, and PAX 3, the latest version of the company’s signature handheld vaporizer, which has sold over one million units to date. The company also announced the release of the PAX Vapor app, which syncs with PAX 3 and PAX Era, both Bluetooth-enabled devices, and helps ensure the smartest, most customizable vapor experience possible.

Since summer of 2015, over a dozen mechanical, electrical, and test engineers with more than 40 years of collective experience in vaporizer product design have been hard at work on the newly announced releases. The compatibility of both new devices with concentrates underscores PAX’s commitment to leading the market in both loose leaf and extract vaporization, and highlights the rapid evolution of the industry since PAX first launched in 2007.

Vaporizer Innovation Driven by Research and Development

“The lifeblood of a technology company is innovation,” says Tyler Goldman, CEO of PAX Labs. “The development of the entirely new Era platform and PAX 3 device are the result of tens of millions of dollars of investment spent on R&D over the last few years.” This investment in research and development was made possible by $46.7 million in Series-C funding secured early last year, which in turn was due in large part to the runaway successes of the PAX 2 and JUUL (PAX’s e-cigarette product).

“We began working on Era and PAX 3 … following the successful launches of PAX 2 and JUUL,” says Bryan White, Vice President of Product Design for PAX Labs. “We don’t sit back and wait following our product launches – we immediately look for improvements, learnings, and new innovations we can apply to the next generation. For every product that gets to the market there are 50 ideas that didn’t work in the shop or lab.”

Inspiration comes from customers, user interviews conducted by PAX, passionate groups of consumers on places like Reddit, and especially from PAX’s engineering team members, who, as White puts it, “eat, sleep, and breathe vapor production and temp control.”

PAX Era: Ease of Use and Temperature Control

The PAX Era sets out to take on three major issues with most oil pens on the market today: fragile design, burnt flavor, and inability to customize settings. “Flavor for us is always the top priority,” says White. “[It’s] a very critical chain that starts with high-power batteries that get the oil to temp instantly, a custom alloy for our heating coils that works with our patented temperature control technology to hold the desired temperature over the entire puff, and then high temp and food safe materials to not impart any additional nasty flavors.” In concert, these factors work seamlessly together to elicit perfect vapor from extracts.

The PAX Era will be available for purchase in California and Colorado starting September 29, 2016.

PAX 3: Compatibility and Customization

In honing in on how best to improve the PAX 2’s already streamlined design, the PAX team zeroed in on factors including the device’s materials, firmware, heating algorithm, user experience, and vapor production. The fact that PAX controls every aspect of the design process, from hardware to software, helps keep PAX on the cutting edge of the vaporizer industry. And not only do PAX 3 vapes push the industry forward with their launch, they will continue to stay ahead of the game thanks to an ability to implement firmware updates in the future when synced with the PAX Vapor app.

The app will also allow PAX 3 users to customize features, to lock their device remotely from their phone, and to select from various modes depending on the specific vaping situation – for instance, a stealth mode, which dims the LED lights of the PAX’s screen and reduces the temperature to produce the subtlest vapor possible. “The fact that you can connect your devices, your hardware to your software to customize and personalize your experience, I think that’s really special,” says Ashley Marand, Global Marketing Manager for PAX Labs, of the PAX 3. “Besides wearable tech, I don’t have any other products that do that for me.”

Key features of the PAX 3 include:

The PAX 3 will be available on the PAX website and through various retailers beginning in mid-October. The PAX 2 retail price will also drop to $199.99 with the release of the PAX 3.
