I think one of the biggest misconceptions about cannabis is that people think that when you consume cannabis you get lazy and don’t’ want to do anything.  I would argue that point and think that Make and Mary workshops are proof.

The Make and Mary workshops are ticketed events where cannabis consumption is allowed in a private venue and people are encouraged to be creative with various types of art. Workshops in the past have included everything from macrame to fabric dying, and the one coming up next weekend is ceramics!

Lisa Jones, creative director for Pigeon Toe Ceramics, said, “Celebrating and normalizing cannabis culture now that it is legal feels important as a Portlander and business owner. Also creating art and marijuana have a long history together and we want to promote that joy with others.”

This will be the third Make and Mary Workshop I have been to and I have always enjoyed seeing people enjoy the art process and enjoy cannabis in a responsible way in a public place.

This is a great way to spend time with friends or meet new ones and create some new (functional!) art.  Here is more information on the event:

make and mary, marijuana eventsIn collaboration with Pigeon Toe Ceramics attendees will customize their very own ceramic pipe. Each of these pipes were cast from a river rock from the Washougal River. There will be mocktails, food, and good company.

Attendees will learn a little bit about the process of ceramic work from Lisa Jones, the owner of Pigeon Toe Ceramics and will be guided through the maker session by Yvonne Perez Emerson of Make & Mary. Of course BYOW (Bring Your Own Weed!) is encouraged and there will be a little natural inspiration on hand too!

Space is limited.

Cost: $45 includes all workshop materials.

Cast from a rock found in the Washougal River, this stone pipe manages to be a playful pun, a beautiful object, and a supremely functional smoking apparatus all in one.
