With cannabis legalization in play in nine states today, Americans could wake up to a profoundly changed landscape tomorrow morning. If voters in all nine states approve the measures (five adult-use, four medical), 58 percent of the nation’s population will live in a state where medical marijuana is legal. If the five adult-use states pass, one in four Americans will live in a state where cannabis is legal for all adults 21 and older.

In the words of President Obama: At that point, federal prohibition “is not going to be tenable.”

Will all nine states pass? Probably not. To see our election eve predictions, go here. But the map you see before you is possible.
