Poll Shows Prop 64 at Nearly 60% Support Less than a Week Before Election
We are now just five days from the November 8th election, in which five states are voting on the legalization of cannabis. According to new polling, one of those states in particular – California – is poised for a strong victory.

According to the new USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll, 58% of likely California voters support Proposition 64. This is compared to just 37% opposed to the measure. With 5% undecided, if they all decided to vote no the initiative would still enjoy a 16% advantage.
“The electorate has gotten younger and more demographically diverse,” says Dan Schnur, director of the Jesse M. Unruh Institute of Politics at USC. “The change over the last six years has been more cultural than political. Society feels differently about marijuana legalization now than it did then.”
Schnur notes that among voters ages 18 to 29, support for Prop 64 was much higher, at 74%. Among the oldest age group, 64 and older, support is at 46%, much lower but still decent.
Unsurprisingly, the poll found that support for legalization was considerably higher among those who have tried the plant. 72% of those who have tried it (43% of those surveyed) support the measure, compared to 46% of those who have never tried it (54%).
