Maui Wellness Group aka Maui Grown Therapies may get the go-ahead to start growing medical marijuana within a couple of months. According to Hawaii Marijuana News, “Prior to its opening, open houses and educational events will held beginning in February. There is no expected opening date available for the dispensary yet. The Health Department is still working on the infrastructure for the dispensary program throughout Hawaii.

The Health Department is working with BioTech Medical Software, Inc. to develop a platform allowing the Health Department constant access to marijuana inventory, sales and state-required information. Contracts with laboratories to test medical marijuana products are also needed. This step, however, does not have to be completed before dispensaries will be permitted to start growing.

Maui Wellness Group expects to be able to start selling medical marijuana within 16 weeks of receiving the go-ahead to start growing. Dispensary owners are, however, rather disappointed about the slow progress of the program. Some claim it is costing them money and is delaying patients’ access to medicine. Some patients, like those suffering from cancer, want quicker access.”

Dr. Gregory Clark of Maui Grown Therapies said, “We are very excited to have achieved this important milestone. While we had hoped to provide Maui patients with access to medical grade cannabis products by now, we will instead devote this time to educating medical professionals, patients and the wider community about the potential benefits of cannabis.”

The Maui Wellness Group have 7-acres secured for their cultivation grounds in Kula.
