Indian River County – The County Commission has approved restrictions medical marijuana treatment centers, limiting them to only a few locations in the unincorporated county.
The areas are zoned general industrial, and are adjacent to the railroad right-of-way north of 12th Street and to two parcels east of Old Dixie Highway near Ninth Place, both near Vero Beach.
The commission also will hold a public hearing on changes to the county code to clarify that the cultivation of marijuana is prohibited countywide.
Community Development Director Stan Boling said that if voters approve Amendment 2 on the Nov. 8 ballot, the county would be able to limit the number of dispensaries through its land development and zoning regulations. If Amendment 2 does not pass, the County Commission can repeal the ordinance, he said.
